Nord Pool Price Optimization, Energy Storage and Infrared Heating

Electricity prices in the Nordic region are no longer stable.

On the Nord Pool electricity exchange, prices change every 15 minutes depending on:

🟧✓ solar energy production

🟧✓ wind intensity

🟧✓ overall electricity demand

🟧✓ weather conditions and seasons

This means that electricity costs can vary significantly during a single day.

The electricity market in the Nordic region is becoming increasingly dynamic — during one part of the day electricity can be almost free, while during another period prices may become very high.

Real Nord Pool Situation

During the winter and spring of 2026, very large electricity price fluctuations were visible.

For example:

🟧 electricity prices during winter evening peak hours reached up to ~0.50 €/kWh

🟧 at night, prices often dropped to ~0.08–0.11 €/kWh

In spring, the situation was often completely opposite.

On sunny days in March and April, electricity prices between approximately 10:00 and 17:00 occasionally dropped close to 0 €/kWh.

This clearly demonstrates how dynamic Nord Pool electricity prices have become.

How Does a Smart Energy System Work?

A modern hybrid inverter can:

🟧✓ monitor Nord Pool electricity prices

🟧✓ automatically charge batteries during cheaper hours

🟧✓ use stored energy during expensive peak hours

🟧✓ optimize electricity consumption

In practice, this means:

  • low-cost electricity is stored

  • stored energy is used during expensive periods

Using Night and Day Tariffs

In winter, the cheapest electricity hours are often during the night:

🟧✓ from 00:00 to 05:00

🟧✓ during windy nights

🟧✓ during periods of lower electricity demand

In spring, very low electricity prices are often available during daytime hours when solar production becomes very high.

A smart energy system can use these periods for:

🟧✓ battery charging

🟧✓ EV charging

🟧✓ domestic hot water preparation

🟧✓ building electricity consumption

Wind + Solar + Battery = A More Stable System

In Nordic climate conditions, a single energy source usually cannot provide stable electricity production throughout the year.

This is why integrated systems are becoming increasingly popular:

🟧✓ solar panels

🟧✓ wind generators

🟧✓ energy storage

🟧✓ hybrid inverters

🟧✓ smart energy management

Solar panels usually provide higher production during daytime and spring periods, while wind generators often operate more efficiently at night, during autumn and winter.

Why Is This Especially Effective with Infrared Heating?

Smart electricity use becomes especially effective when stored or low-cost electricity is used for heating.

Sundirect infrared heaters allow this electricity to be used more efficiently than traditional convection heating systems.

🟧✓ heat is transferred directly to people and surfaces

🟧✓ there is no need to overheat the air

🟧✓ comfort can be achieved at lower air temperatures

🟧✓ stored electricity is used directly for comfort

In practice, this means:

  • electricity stored during the cheapest Nord Pool hours is later used for efficient heating.

Important — Choosing the Right Hybrid Inverter

When planning a modern energy system, choosing the correct hybrid inverter becomes extremely important.

We strongly recommend paying close attention to hybrid inverter capabilities, because not all inverters available on the market fully support the system configuration we offer.

Differences between inverters can be significant:

🟧✓ Nord Pool optimization

🟧✓ battery management

🟧✓ backup/EPS modes

🟧✓ load management

🟧✓ wind generator integration

🟧✓ energy management automation

This is why an energy system should always be planned as one integrated solution.

A Smarter Approach to Energy

Modern energy systems are no longer only about electricity production.

They are about:

🟧✓ smart energy storage

🟧✓ automatic optimization

🟧✓ adaptation to Nord Pool prices

🟧✓ greater independence from electricity market fluctuations

The smarter the energy system becomes, the greater the independence from electricity price volatility.
